Happy Halloween!!! For some of you at least. Before you go trick or treating(if you do anyway), I hope you can read the rest of my short story, cause this is the end!
------
It's lunchtime now. I ate quickly and went outside. The rain had finally stopped and I didn't want to stay inside any longer. I like to take a walk around when I'm bored. It's really beautiful when it stops raining, and the sun can just be seen from behind the clouds that are breaking up. It almost makes me forget the worms. Almost. It doesn't help that the rain causes worms to come to the surface. I can see five just by looking around.
I wasn't very far from the house, so I noticed that Mom and Dad had taken Grandma out to the porch to get some fresh air. She was sitting in her chair with her eyes half closed. I thought she had fallen asleep, until she looked straight at me and started singing. She changed the words. It went like this:
"Worms are leaving, they can't stay
Worms are going far away
Worms are leaving, yes it's true
They are going away from you"
She repeated it and that's when I realized, she was singing for me! She was calling off the worms to stop scaring me! Maybe she heard me scream last night, or maybe she wanted them to leave too, I'm not sure. I remembered the worms I saw earlier and looked down to find them again, to see if they would really leave.
What I saw shocked me. The worms were going towards my grandma, not away. I picked up a stick, went to the nearest worm, and gently poked it. It squirmed for a moment, then became still. After a minute or two of waiting, I poked it again and discovered that it was dead. It shriveled up before my eyes! I looked around and saw the other worms were also dead and shriveled up.
Grandma had stopped singing and was beginning to nod off as I ran to find my parents.
They were in the backyard, on the patio. I told them about Grandma's song, how she changes the lyrics, and what happened to the worms. Before they had a chance to say anything about it, Grandma came and announced that she decided to go to a nursing home and asked to leave right away to find one.
It took a few days, but finally, she was settled into a nice home where she made some friends and, to my relief, stopped singing all together. Since then, I haven't had any nightmares about worms, and haven't seen any live ones. Thank you for listening to my story. I hope the worms didn't scare you too much.

;) That was the ending I wrote in my notebook. I was writing it as if the character was the one telling the story. Hope you liked it!
